Graham Briggs: When people learn I'm a wargamer I often get asked how it works. I've tried a number of ways of explaining it. The only one that works really is to say "well, it's a bit like chess, but with a much bigger table. And more complex rules. And about a thousand pieces." The particular rules I use the most are Field of Glory (currently in it's 3rd version).
